Timing tips for upcoming NQ’s

For September 2024 qualifiers, next September probably still seems a long way off.

You may only be in your second seat, and the decisions you’ll be having to make are all next year… so, plenty of time to think about all of that then - well, yes and no !

It’s never too early to be thinking about what you want to achieve, and to be ahead of the game. We have prepared this short guide and timetable so you’re ready for the qualification process:


Jun/Jul – Start thinking about what you want to qualify in to and perhaps the seat opportunities you would like. If you haven’t already, start drafting a CV to keep a record of all your seat experience and keep updating this.


Aug/Sep/Oct – Ask for recommendations about who to use and trust, and reach out for a chat with an experienced recruiter. Explain what your initial thoughts are and take early advice.


Nov/Dec – Get together again with your recruiter to review your CV and re-discuss your aims. You want to be getting ready in case of exciting ‘early bird’ NQ opportunities in the New Year.


Jan/Feb – Have an experienced recruiter keeping an eye on the market for you. Have your CV ready for anything that looks exciting that you may be keen to explore further.


Mar/Apr/May – The NQ ‘season’ will be in full swing. Firms will be announcing NQ roles, having established plans for their trainees and what gaps that will leave. Lots of other soon-to-be NQ’s will be in the market looking at options and interviewing, so it’s important to be on the ball and active during this period.


Jun/Jul – By now, most September qualifiers will know what they are going to be doing in September, whether that’s staying at their current firm or perhaps signing their paperwork for an exciting new role.

 

It’s important to have a plan and be fully prepared if you’re going to give yourself the best chance of securing your ideal NQ opportunity.
